Skygrid, a pioneer in vehicle-based AI infrastructure, today announced it has joined the SOAFEE Special Interest Group (SIG). Skygrid will collaborate with the SOAFEE ecosystem to help define the open, standards-based architecture needed to safely unlock the immense high-performance computing (HPC) power of parked, software-defined vehicles (SDVs).
Skygrid’s mission is to transform the 95% of time that modern electric vehicles are idle into a secure, virtualized data center for AI computing. As a member of the SIG, Skygrid will contribute its expertise in orchestrating intermittent compute nodes across vehicle fleets. This includes providing reference implementations and insights for a safety-first architecture that aligns with automotive saftey and security principles.
“Cars are the sleeping giants of the computing world. By joining the SOAFEE SIG, we aim to contribute practical blueprints that empower OEMs to safely unlock parked vehicle HPCs as a dependable, distributed AI infrastructure,” said Ronnie Jansson, CEO of Skygrid Engineering.
By contributing to the SIG, Skygrid will help accelerate solutions that reuse existing vehicle silicon to promote sustainability, support regional compute sovereignty, and create new value for the entire automotive ecosystem.
About Skygrid
Skygrid is building a new compute category: vehicle-based AI infrastructure. Our software orchestrates the idle HPCs in modern EVs into a virtual data center. The platform activates only when parked, and is engineered specifically to meet automotive safety and security expectations. Skygrid’s patent-pending Optimal Disruption Tolerant Computing (ODTC) technology ensures reliable job execution across intermittent nodes. Founded in 2024, the company is headquartered in Gothenburg, Sweden.
